<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The very first episode of "Fixer Upper" I watched is when Jo, casts her vision for the silos they had yet to purchase, it is season three, I think. So, finally getting to see it was fun.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We spent about an hour walking through the stores, standing in line at the Baking Company and sitting in the gathering area to watch people - most of the women were much more animated than their male companions. Just saying. I am excited for Waco, the area around The Silos is becoming a hive of activity. There are lots of shops in the Spice Village nearby and yummy restaurants within walking. It will be exciting to see the area in two years when we next get to Waco.
When you think of a sanitation worker - quick what comes to mind. Not this, I bet! Many of these burros survived, even though their owners perished under the harsh desert conditions. Many more burros escaped or were released during the settlement of the West. Because of their hardiness, Wild burros have thrived throughout the North American deserts, and their numbers have increased to perhaps 20,000.<span style="box-sizing: inherit; font-family: "verdana" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">

Wild Burros like the natural path that is Highway 95 around Lake Havasu, Arizona. <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">In November 2018 we sang in Vancouver, Washington at St. Johns. It was Quilt Sunday and these photos do not come close to capturing the warmth and beauty. At one point in the service, everyone touched the quilt nearest them and prayed that it would bring warmth and joy to whoever would receive it. Some quilts went to Lutheran World Relief, some to homeless shelters, and some to other smaller missions of the church.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I have friends who are quilters and I find their gifts inspiring! It is with a joyful heart they have shared quilts with me, and as the recipient of such a gift, I know a little of the joy a quilt can bring.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Lord Bless the hands who labored over these wonderful scraps of fabric to bring about such beauty and blessing to others.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We have visited many churches with an active group of women who intentionally use their gifts to bring joy to others. Thank you from those of us who can't or do not quilt.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I am not going to lie, it was really fun. Following the outdoor service at church, there was a potluck and Bloody Mary bar! So, here I am saluting my hubby as he laughs at me and sings. I think Thrivent has nailed the "live generously," slogan at this event.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Yes, you could also have a beer with condiments. Not everyone feels comfortable with any kind of alcohol at church, save for communion. I find that I did not have a problem and I LOVED sharing the experience with others just to gauge their reaction. :) Ahhh Lutherans.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We camped at Bottomless Lake State Park, just outside of Roswell, New Mexico, for a week. The bridge making the trip to town about 6 miles had washed out in heavy rains the week before; the trip to town was 36 miles, needless to say, we stocked up and did not make the trip as often as we would have liked.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">This little alien showed up at the lakeshore, I am counting it - alien.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">All over town the signage when gracefully possible (or not) had an alien motif. Please note the lamp post. :)
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Driving around the park we spotted an alien, but upon closer inspection, it was a dead bug on the windshield. :(
She had Alzheimer’s and was trapped in her body for years. I will always remember her as a kind, loving, God fearing and best grandma a person could ask for. ~ Juli Lattner
<span style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Grandma died on December 10, 2018. She is the person who taught me how to be a grandma. She was vibrant and kind. As a daughter-in-law, you hear comments about their difficult or hard mother-in-law, but not in this case. As Juli said we really lost her to Alzheimer's about 13 years ago. She left us by inches and it was hard. Thankfully, the Lord gives us memories that happily trigger all the good stuff, and there was a lot of good stuff! Baking, a game of cards, gardening, walking, shopping, playing, sewing for everyone, workday break with a can of Coke, painting, ceramics, church, travel, she was a busy gal. Grandma loved to crochet, she patiently passed that creative skill along to my daughter who has turned out some pretty fabulous stuff including a blanket she crocheted for her grandma. :) Grandma allowed me the opportunity to be who I was without "fixing" it. I have yet to get that one down. She was not perfect by any means, but she was always ready, willing and present. There are so many people who loved her dearly.
Our NEW HaRVey was not lifting off of the truck and leveling automatically. We had to manually level our self-leveling RV. This was no big deal we had been doing that for the past 10 years, with old HaRVey, the problem was it should be self-leveling. It is pretty incredible standing by and watching your house level itself.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We had a mobile RV Repairman come out to our spot in Texas; he was stumped. Three weeks later we found Countryman Repair, in Foley, Arkansas, and hauled our house in for repair work in hopes of getting to the bottom of our legs. As the legs were being lowered/raised, the left front leg FELL OFF!!! I can't even imagine what we would have done. I guess we were at the bottom of the problem.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A leg was ordered and we had to wait 10 days as Indiana was closed due to snow in late January.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I have waited on writing this post as I wanted to say, "our legs look great and watching your house self-level really is pretty cool."
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I began this post months ago and now I can finish by saying everything has worked for many moves - thanks be to God.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Let me begin by saying I am truly a middle-aged woman and one of my favorite beach pastimes might be people watching. This year I found myself thinking, "that seems very uncomfortable," or "she MUST be cold." <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">And speaking of the bare minimum, I guess you are never too old for education and in the end, I did get an eye full. In some cases, sadly, you cannot un-see that!
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I loved the sound of the waves, the children laughing and running into the water, but a few of the sights weren't really worth seeing, and it was hard to ignore all the bottoms up moving down the beach.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">What do Cover All, Picnic Table, Z, and Six Pack all have in common? They are all Bingo games. I have never played Bingo where money was involved until February 2019. It was a lot of fun and let me tell you some folks take their Bingo VERY seriously as my friend and I learned. I was actually "shushed" - a humbling experience. We played on two consecutive Wednesdays. The first week we played, my friend won $30.00 and the next week I won $57.00. I would like to say I spent my gambling money on something for the improvement of others, but alas, I blew it on a feast.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We celebrated our Birthdays in a big way at Joe's Crab Shack, where we ate out on the patio with the beach and waves in our view. <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">This space used to be a preschool classroom. These days it serves as an outlet to help young and new families with the basic stuff every baby needs!
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Kristen, a young lady who is not married has no children of her own but does have a huge heart for mothers. My daughter and her son came to visit while we were in Sherwood. Kristen supplied us with a pack and play and a stroller as well as toys.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Tomorrow we will put Texas in our rearview mirror. We start getting haRVey ready to go the evening before because we tend to have a lot of moving chores to do. You never want to rush through your moving chores. Actually, it is best to have a checklist, which we do not ( I can't even believe I am admitting that. (Dave: We used to, until we got our new trailer, but that was only a year and a half ago.)) While it is routine, one false move and a moment of forgetfulness can be quite dramatic.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We have lost one TV antennae, one lawn chair, a broom, a bin, an outdoor rug, a welcome mat, and a couple of vent caps. Not too bad for 11 years of full-timing! (Dave: The welcome mat was stolen from the truck-bed (ironic, eh?) the bin was secured - well, 'secured' - and the vent caps were ripped off by tree branches.)

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Our next jaunt will take us from the Houston, Texas, area to Milton, Florida, about 620 miles. We will NOT travel that in one day. We will boondock overnight along I-10. I have found the best way to stay away from junk food is to prepare good snacks ahead of time. Today I cut up our celery, carrots, watermelon, cheese, and apples, peeled our oranges and put it all in containers.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Our old haRVey allowed kitchen access when fully slid in, new haRVey does not, ah the trade-offs. We will probably eat out for breakfast because - coffee.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">When we first started this journey eleven years ago, most truck stops had places to park, no sweat; however, we have noticed "reserved" signs on about half of the truck stop parking spaces at any given Pilot or Love's. We have at times stopped earlier than intended or driven farther just to park at a truck stop.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Having said all of that I do enjoy a boondocking trip. It is always interesting to see the people, the countryside, and other RVer's. You never know who you will meet in passing. :)
HaRVey moved us to Texas on December 15. We spent three weeks in Lake Conroe, Texas, followed by a stay at Colorado River RV Resort in Columbus, Texas. Both spots served us well. It is always hard to move on after parking for three whole weeks! It does not take long to put down roots, have a routine, and get used to the surroundings.

Today we drove to town without even turning on the GPS!! A true sign that it is time to move. Our next stop is Milton, Florida.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Since October, my family has really discovered Snap Chat. We find it difficult to send any kind of serious message in this format.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The grands have all discovered that if it is a doggy face, you open your mouth and a tongue rolls out. Sometimes bunnies or kitties will spit hearts when you open your mouth. No matter the day, the time, or circumstance, Snap Chat can make you smile.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">So, now after a few months, messages like this are completely normal.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">In late November the weather in the mid-South "usually" does not hover at freezing for so long, but it did just that while we were parked in Edwardsville, IL, at the home of our dear friends, the Lange family.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">This has to be one of my best OMW stays. Watching horses made me forget that my toes were cold. I was fascinated by their daily routine, who hung out with whom, which horses were best friends, the boss horse, how they communicated, you know, things you ponder about horses.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I included the OMW shot of the icicle :( proving it is too cold to be in St. Louis area for Thanksgiving.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">One morning OMW I saw Arrow, the family dog and four of her eight puppies making a break from the barn. I believe that Arrow was thinking, "Listen, I am just going out for coffee, a little book time and just chill. I promise I will be back, really." These pups made a break with mom. I grabbed my coat and went out to help Josiah round up the herd. Josiah and I could be heard saying things like, "I have two," or "we are still missing one," and "yikes, now we have another one loose." It was fun to be around such simple puppy joy. All eight pups have new homes following the Thanksgiving break. It was a very nice doggie fix for us as a dog in 8' x 40' just does not appeal to either of us.
Or you must lose 250 pounds by next Thursday!

After living in haRVey for nearly a year, we confidently weighed ourselves at a CAT scale. haRVey is rated for 15,000 pounds gross. Much to our now deflated confidence, we were 250 pounds overweight. We discovered our dietary excess in Kennewick, Washington, and made lists from there to Minnesota, as to how we would make our goal weight.

Our first exercise was to empty out EVERYTHING from the "basement" (all compartments on the sides) and the "garage" (the front compartment near the hitch). After that intense workout, we were able to entertain each other with comments like, "Wow, I didn't know I had two of those" Or "We should really keep all of the tie-downs together" and my favorite, "How many of those do you really need?" Yes, it was a really fun time.

After combing through the outside we shifted our focus to everything inside. We emptied drawers and we each held on to the items from each drawer we used. That was interesting. What can I say about spices? We had WAY too many and I know they don't weigh much every ounce counts!

As a cool down thought just because you have an empty space you do not need to fill it.

I frequently tell people this purge was harder on Dave as he had to let go of books, again!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Scarlett, enjoyed her first camping trip this year. She is a natural!
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">She did not like riding the escalator or elevator at all. On a <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">family trip to a waterpark/hotel we took the stairs up and down all four flights many times rather than take the elevator. I am guessing next year she will be ready, but now she is ready to chill, nailed it.
When we introduced ourselves to the school secretary at one of our long ago stops when my hair was brown, I was informed that a student had transferred recently and her name - Sabra.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We have witnessed many "close calls" over the years, and some of them could easily have been us. It only takes a little distraction and wham, you back right over a stump.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I took these photos while sitting at my desk after knocking on my window and yelling, STOP, but it was rather a lot like yelling at your TV.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The RV owner was able to move forward with minimal damage to the undercarriage and much wiser.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The RV park maintenance man showed up shortly after with a chainsaw in hand.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">There can be a lot of drama watching people move in and out. Colorful language and lots of yelling are always fun, but you can spot the seasoned RV'ers: barely a word passes between them, just hand signals and nodding of the head - poetry!
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I have found myself running after folks waving my arms as they are pulling out of their campsite with a door open, the TV antenna extended or even air vents open.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We have been through two TV antennas, lost fenders, a broom fell out of an open door - "Excuse me," said the nice lady in the car in the next lane, "but your broom fell out." We have even driven over a plastic wheel chock. Those things can explode, given enough pressure.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We have a checklist of sorts and never celebrate moving day in a hurry. It takes about 2 hours to prepare the move, including hitching up haRVey.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">And always as we hit the road we say responsively,
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Initiator: Lord be with us as we travel,
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Respondant: that our house may not unravel.Life With HaRVeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00277567393237884210noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6948552321994357663.post-24253202987778219652018-03-10T20:03:00.003-06:002018-03-10T20:03:51.598-06:00Good Stuff We Love
