The Cookie Lady

Now, cookies may not seem to be a big job in the Kingdom, but it sure makes a difference in the community of First Lutheran as folks gather following the worship to connect over coffee and cookies.
Roscoe's warm embrace exemplifies everyone's feelings towards their gentle servant.

Vivian is 95 years old and every Sunday, she brings two trays of homemade cookies to coffee hour. I could not get a photo of the cookie trays... only the crumbs.

School Secretaries

Working at Lutheran High School in Mayer was a job I just loved. Today I met Debbie and Julie who run Lutheran High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. (Principals and Executive Directors may think they run the school, but I know better.) Secretaries keep the teachers going, care for students, and successfully balance the minutia involved in the day to day, right, Karen and Paulette? It is always a pleasure to meet members of the LHS sisterhood!

Valentine's Day

Members of Our Redeemer in Longview, Texas, celebrate the children of their congregation on Valentine's Day with small gifts. There was a breakfast following the first worship service - always a good idea. Earlier in the month each child's name was placed on a tree. Adults, not their parents, chose a child to celebrate on Valentine's Day. I have a photo of the "tree," now bare, but earlier in the morning it had gifts dressing up the base. This was a wonderful event for grandparents who are far from their grandchildren; and children who were delighted to fill in.

Texas Winter

The reason we are in the south in February is to escape winter....

Propane

In the winter it is best to be in the South. Last winter we were in Florida - ideal temperatures. This year we have been traveling throughout Texas - not so ideal temperature-wise.

Dave is convinced that our propane tank WILL NOT empty during the daylight warmer hours; it will only happen between the hours of 1 - 4:30 AM, when you have to leave your warm bed and trudge outside with a flashlight and close one tank and open the opposing tank.
When in Florida we probably had to purchase propane once every two weeks, but this winter we have been buying propane every 3 - 4 days. At some point the tank will run out during the day... we will get back to you on that.

The Cross and the Empty Tomb

Here is what Dave is all about. I snapped this shot as Dave was singing pre-service music at First Lutheran Church in Texarkana. I was looking back on my blog entries and thought perhaps I should include a bit about the real ministry and work we are doing. The truth is it does not feel like we are working at all, it is pure joy to sing and tell people about Jesus. Dave loves to speak and sing the cross and the empty tomb and what that means for all of us. It is hard to believe that May 2010 will mark two full years on the road - I feel as though we are just getting started.

Our schedule has only one Sunday spot open from now until June - May 23 if you are interested. :) Thanks be to God.

We are pictured with Pastor Barry Kolb and his very dear wife, Nancy, who hosted us at First Lutheran.

Pastor Tom and Cheryl Konz serve the people of St. Paul Lutheran in Stephenville, Texas. We were privileged to spend time with them in late January.

We have met so many in ministry who have a heart for His people and love to serve. We thank God for you.

On the Border

The main Post Office in Texarkana is on the border between Texas and Arkansas. State Line Road, behind me in the photo (I am wearing a COAT!) takes traffic around the Post Office and as its name implies is the state line between Texas and Arkansas.

Starbuck's and Corner Gas

Corner Gas is a hilarious T.V.show which has just completed its final season. My friend, Linda, told us about the show and after one episode - we were hooked. Because we live full-time in an RV, we have limited band width each month.
SO....

...here we are at Starbuck's in Texarkana, Texas, getting in a couple of episodes of Corner Gas.
